Installation of the JavaTM Runtime Environment (Java Plug-in) [2/6]

Information

The installation of the JavaTM Runtime Environment (Java Plug-in) is required for HiPath 4000 administration clients.

Diagnosis

Installation status of the JavaTM Runtime Environment (Java Plug-in):

ERROR:
Java Runtime Environment not installed.

  • If a green check () appears, a correct version of the JavaTM Runtime Environment is already installed and you may proceed with the next step.
  • If a yellow warning triangle () appears, you have a version of the JavaTM Runtime Environment installed that is not explicitly approved.
  • If a red stop sign () appears, install JavaTM Runtime Environment and/or enable Active-X controls and plug-ins. If you are not sure whether you have already installed JavaTM Runtime Environment, it is safer to install it again.
  • Your browser is running in 32-bit mode. JRE with this mode must be installed on the client PC to ensure that applets will run correctly in the browser.
  • If the automatic diagnosis fails ( / ), install JavaTM Runtime Environment.

Installation of Java Cryptography Extension (JCE):

ERROR:
Java Runtime Environment not installed.

  • Installation of Java Cryptography Extension is only required if FIPS 140-2 mode (strong encryption) is enabled in Security Mode Configuration.
  • If a green check () appears, Java Cryptography Extension are correctly installed on client PC.
  • If a yellow warning triangle () appears, Java Cryptography Extension are not installed on client PC.

Installation

  1. Java Runtime Environment
    • List of supported versions of Java Runtime Environment can be found in HiPath 4000 Manager / Assistant Release Notes.
    • Information about supported Java Runtime Environment versions for specific operating systems is available on Oracle internet Java pages (JRE 6, JRE 7, JRE 8).
    • Download Java Runtime Environment from Oracle official download page.
    • J2SE 5.0 is not supported by HiPath 4000. J2SE 5.0 reached its End of Service Life on November 3, 2009, which is the date of the final publicly available update of version 5.0 (J2SE 5.0 Update 22). More information on Oracle official page.
    • J2SE 1.4.2 is not supported by HiPath 4000. J2SE 1.4.2 reached its End of Service Life on October 30, 2008, which is the date of the final publicly available update of version J2SE 1.4.2. More information on Oracle official page.
  2. Java Cryptography Extension (JCE)
    • In order to support AES256 bit ciphers, you must download Oracle Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files 7 or 8 from the official Oracle download page.
    • Unzip the JCE JAR files (local_policy.jar, US_export_policy.jar) to the %JAVA_HOME%\lib\security directory on your client PC. Typically it is C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\lib\security directory.
  3. Quit and exit your Internet browser.
  4. Install the downloaded JRE on your PC by double clicking the executable.
  5. Restart your Internet browser, return to this Web page and continue with the client preparation.
